Loftus Lit: High-Power Laser Show Transforms Loftus Versfeld Into a Stadium Afterparty

Loftus Versfeld Stadium is known for rugby. On this night, it became something far more.

Following a dominant victory by the Blue Bulls over the Sharks, the energy did not end at the final whistle. Instead, it escalated into Loftus Lit, a full-scale stadium afterparty experience where sport and live event production collided.

M Productions was proud to deliver the complete laser and AV production for this high-impact outdoor event, transforming the B Field into a visually immersive afterparty environment.

From Rugby Stadium to Festival-Scale Production

The brief was ambitious.Take a secondary field inside one of South Africa’s most iconic stadiums and convert it into a festival-level afterparty space capable of holding the momentum of a major rugby match.

The result was a large-format production environment driven by high-powered laser systems, advanced show control, and tightly integrated audio-visual elements.

10 × 45W High-Power Lasers: One of the Most Powerful Stadium Setups in Africa

At the heart of the production was a deployment of 10 × 45 W RGB laser systems, strategically positioned across two elevation levels to maximise coverage, depth, and visual impact throughout the stadium. This configuration created massive aerial beam effects visible across the venue, while the layered placement added depth, movement, and dimension to the show. Synchronised with the music and crowd energy, the high-intensity laser sequences delivered powerful visual moments that elevated the overall experience. With a combined output of 450 W of RGB laser power, this production ranked among the most powerful laser installations ever deployed for a live entertainment event in Africa.

Precision Control: GrandMA3 and Pangolin Beyond

To achieve seamless execution, the entire production was driven by industry-leading control platforms, with GrandMA3 providing lighting and laser integration, and Pangolin Beyond serving as the primary laser control system. Together, these platforms delivered precise cue timing, real-time adaptability, and complete synchronisation between the lighting, lasers, and music. This tightly integrated workflow ensured every element of the production responded flawlessly, resulting in a show that was cohesive, immersive, and executed with exceptional technical precision.

Designing for an Open-Air Environment

Outdoor laser shows present a unique challenge. Without controlled atmospheric conditions, beam visibility can be significantly reduced.

To overcome this, we implemented atmospheric support systems to retain beam density and ensure strong aerial visibility throughout the space. This allowed the lasers to cut through the night sky and maintain their visual impact across the entire venue.

Built for Pressure: Delivering Through Rain and Adversity

Despite unexpected rainfall and challenging weather conditions, the production continued without compromise. Outdoor events of this scale demand robust equipment capable of withstanding environmental stress, combined with a highly experienced technical crew able to adapt and solve problems under pressure. Through careful planning, resilient systems, and the expertise of our team, the show continued seamlessly, ensuring the audience experienced a world-class production without interruption.
